Backgrounds
1. Open MS Paint. A background (tiled) can be any size, but don't make it too big. Also don't use the standard colors in Paint because they're WAY too bright (except black and white.. =P). Those are two common beginner mistakes- having too big of pictures and using the standard Paint colors. If you don't do that, it'll make your pictures look a lot better. =)
Fill in the background with a color.

2. Now we have two choices- make a polka dot background or a stripes one.
| Polka Dots Go to Colors- Edit Colors- Define Custom colors, then drag down the arrow a little so your color becomes darker. Click ok. Click on the brush tool, then click on the biggest circle. Click randomly on your canvas, but make sure they don't overlap each other and they don't go partially over the edge. You can also try some in a lighter version of the background color. :)

Stripes Go to Colors- Edit Colors- Define Custom colors, then drag down the arrow a little so your color becomes darker. Click ok. Click on the line tool and choose a size. Click at the top edge of the canvas once, press down shift, drag the line to the bottom. It should be perfectly straight. Change your color to a lighter version, and change the size of the line a lot. If the line doesn't extend all the way from top to bottom, undo it or it'll ruin the whole point of a stripes background. :(

Save your background as a .png
Here's the code for a background: Just change IMAGE URL to the address of your image (you have to upload it somewhere like photobucket.com).
